Week 9
Six strategies to finding information on the web:
- Make sure you're in the right place: not everything can be located on teh web, so make sure the information that you are looking for can be located on that site.
- When in doubt, doubt: not all information on the web is necessarily correct, always check for evidence, bias and especially your own knowledge.
- Consider the source: always find out exactly who wrote their source, their name as well as evidence about them that proves that they are a reliable source of information.
- Know whats happening: make sure you check the reason why the website was created, whether it was to sell something, to inform or to persuade.
- Look at the details: look at when the site was last updated, the quality of the grammar and the depth in which the author goes into.
- Distinguish web pages: check to see if the web page was originally something else such as a book or report.
